Kho Liang Ie played a pivotal role in shaping Dutch design from the 1950s through the mid-1970s and was responsible for the interior design of Schiphol Airport.

The open-air theater in the amphitheater at Vondelpark Openluchttheater presents a diverse program including dance, live music, Dutch stand-up comedy, children’s theater, and classical performances. No tickets are required; however, donations are greatly appreciated and can be made via QR codes displayed in and around the park or at on-site payment stations.

Open-Air Cinema – Pllek

The waterfront café Pllek screens a curated selection of beautiful, thought-provoking, and occasionally provocative films on a large outdoor screen set on its urban beach. Screenings take place weather permitting. Comfortable seating, beanbags, and blankets are provided. Admission is ticketed, and advance purchase is recommended.

Festival: Keti Koti 

Keti Koti, meaning “Broken Chains,” is Freedom Day—an annual commemoration marking the abolition of slavery in Suriname, a former Dutch colony. A remembrance ceremony takes place at the National Slavery Monument in Oosterpark. Celebrations continue at Museumplein with live performances, food trucks, and market stalls, creating a vibrant and meaningful cultural gathering.

Festival TREK 

The popular traveling food truck festival arrives at Amstelpark, featuring approximately 35 curated food trucks, live music, theatrical performances, and a relaxed summer atmosphere.

Held at Gaasperplas, this lively music festival combines a wide range of entertainment with nostalgic hits from the 1990s and 2000s. Expect an upbeat crowd and performances by both local and international artists.
